The Carmel Jazz bands traveled to Ball State this past weekend to take part in the Dimensions in Jazz festival. Each group competed against over 15 different schools from across Indiana at the all day event. Carmel’s Jazz 1, including CHTV’s own Danny Yount, received the highest score of the day and got to perform on a concert that night for a packed house. Trumpet player David Phoebus from Jazz 2 also won an individual award for best lead trumpet, and from Jazz 1, Keith Jost won best bass, and Jacob Hook best overall musician.

The Carmel Education Foundation is an organization dedicated to helping both teachers and students excel. Each year, the foundation gives scholarships and grants to members of the district in order to fund projects. To get the word out about the program, the Foundation hosts the annual CEF Telethon. The telethon gives music groups from various elementary schools a chance to perform and showcase their talents in front of the cameras. In years prior, the telethon has been a live event. But this year, CHTV staff took a new approach. The telethon was instead filmed as it happened, and edited at a later date. The finished production is now available online here.

The telethon was a big event for CHTV, with almost 20 students putting together the production. Check out some behind the scenes shots taken by Mary Pat Stemnock here and here.

Carmel Dance Marathon 2012 was another outstanding event for Carmel High School. Students danced for countless hours and raised over 200,000 dollars “FTK”, or “for the kids” of Riley Children’s Hospital.  CHTV had the privilege of being there to live stream the entire event and to work with HiLite and WHJE to capture the moment. The Marathon will be played again for the public on channel 99 within the next month. Check our twitter page (@CHTV) for updates. Thanks to all who were involved to make this year a success.

Carmel High School is already one of the most respected schools in the nation.  With size, academics, and athletics.  But one the occasion that really shows the pride of the Fighting Greyhounds at Carmel, is Homecoming Week.  This event will start on a Saturday with the 5K Run, which symbolizes the start of the class competition.  The class competition includes fierce battles in Penny Wars, in which the classes with the most pennies will win, Playhouse Building where the grade levels compete to make the best playhouse, and the most important one of the year, the Spirit Day Competition.

The Spirit Days of the 2011 Homecoming Year included American Day, Decades Day, Pirates and Ninjas Day, Movie Character Day, and finally Blue and Gold Day.  On Blue and Gold Day, the students get to enjoy 20 minute classes with live drum-line music in the commons during passing periods, and get to end their day with the CHS Homecoming Pep Rally, Trike Races, and the Homecoming Parade.  But the fun does not stop there.

As the evening approaches, Carmel is finally coming out. The Carmel Stadium Parking lot begins to fill up slowly as anxious football fans tailgate anticipating the The Fighting Hounds to kickoff the Homecoming game, which featured the Lawrence North Wildcats this year.  The Hounds had an exceptional game with a shut-out of  42-0 over the Wildcat.  Friday has finally ended but the festivities keep going until midnight strikes on the following Saturday.  This evening is fulfilled with high school students of all ages gather in the fieldhouse for a night of dancing with friends.  The administration hires a live DJ that plays music that appeals to the Students of Carmel High School.

As you can see, Carmel High School has more pride in the school than just the high academics and strong athletics.  As Homecoming time comes during the year, the pride of the Greyhounds is really shown.

Leaving the best for last the IHSAA announced that Carmel drew Perry Meridian first for their sectional match up. Not too often do you see the number one and number two teams in the State, in the same sectional.
