August of 2008, the Greyhounds had a record crowd as the Boys of Fall for Carmel High School faced rival school 4A the Cathedral Fighting Irish for the ESPN High School Showcase showdown. But that game has been long forgotten as the Class of 2012 Senior Leaders including running back sensation Jalen Duncan, starting quarterback Brandon Denning, and future Purdue Boilmaker strong safety Jimmy Herman were only freshmen. But one of the games that will go down as one of the greatest matchups at Carmel Stadium will happen this Friday November 4th. The top ranked Warriors of Warren Central who also stand at #4 in the nation (according Freeman Rankings on CBS MaxPreps Sports) will face the #2 in state and #6 in the nation (according to the Freeman Rankings on CBS MaxPreps Sports) Greyhounds.

This is not the first time these two powerhouses of Indiana have met this season . Last time the Greyhounds and the MIC rivals met was during the Circle City Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium on September 30th of this year, where the Warriors were victorious off of a last second field goal to make the final score 22-20, which made the overall series between the two MIC teams 10-12 with the Warriors ahead by two games. But home field advantage will be a major factor for the Greyhounds this time instead of a neutral playing field. Athletic Director of Carmel High School Jim Inskeep believes that even though they do not have a sold-out system, gates will very likely be closing if capacity gets to full which will become a safety hazard for the fans of the sport, and he recommends that any CHS parent, student, faculty member, or fan should plan accordingly and purchase your ticket either online or in the Activities office. People who have purchased their ticket sooner will be guaranteed a seat for Friday’s matchup. “We are expecting anywhere between 8,000 to 10,000 spectators, while we will add an extra 1,000 seats to accommodate the large crowd,” says Inskeep. “Home field is always a great factor when the energy is positive,” says Jalen Duncan, senior running back for the Greyhounds with 1369 Yards and 21 Touchdowns on the season including last week’s 35-14 victory of the Lawrence Central Bears where he had 4 Touchdowns and 180 total yards for that matchup. The last time the Greyhounds and Warriors met at Carmel Stadium was the fall of 2009 for Carmel’s very prestigious Homecoming, where the Hounds were victorious 42-35. This game made the streak of defeat for the Warriors at Carmel Stadium even longer. The last time the Warriors won at Carmel was in 2001, even during the Warriors well known 3 straight State Titles in row during 2004, 2005, and 2006.

But the 2011 Warriors are not your average Indiana football team. Sheldon Day (senior), part of half of the defense committed to D1 schools, are not the easiest to go through. This game will go down in the record books at Carmel Stadium, which also will be the first matchup of the Top 2 teams in the State will face each other during Sectionals. Be sure to see Indiana High School Football at its best on Friday. For more information on all post season fall sports or to purchase tickets for Friday’s event, visit the athletic website at http://www.ccs.k12.in.us/chs/carmelgreyhounds/teams-and-schedules.

Carmel High School is already one of the most respected schools in the nation. With size, academics, and athletics. But one the occasion that really shows the pride of the Fighting Greyhounds at Carmel, is Homecoming Week. This event will start on a Saturday with the 5K Run, which symbolizes the start of the class competition. The class competition includes fierce battles in Penny Wars, in which the classes with the most pennies will win, Playhouse Building where the grade levels compete to make the best playhouse, and the most important one of the year, the Spirit Day Competition.

The Spirit Days of the 2011 Homecoming Year included American Day, Decades Day, Pirates and Ninjas Day, Movie Character Day, and finally Blue and Gold Day. On Blue and Gold Day, the students get to enjoy 20 minute classes with live drum-line music in the commons during passing periods, and get to end their day with the CHS Homecoming Pep Rally, Trike Races, and the Homecoming Parade. But the fun does not stop there.

As the evening approaches, Carmel is finally coming out. The Carmel Stadium Parking lot begins to fill up slowly as anxious football fans tailgate anticipating the The Fighting Hounds to kickoff the Homecoming game, which featured the Lawrence North Wildcats this year. The Hounds had an exceptional game with a shut-out of 42-0 over the Wildcat. Friday has finally ended but the festivities keep going until midnight strikes on the following Saturday. This evening is fulfilled with high school students of all ages gather in the fieldhouse for a night of dancing with friends. The administration hires a live DJ that plays music that appeals to the Students of Carmel High School.

As you can see, Carmel High School has more pride in the school than just the high academics and strong athletics. As Homecoming time comes during the year, the pride of the Greyhounds is really shown.

On Thursday October 20th Carmel High School will be hosting a movie premier in the auditorium from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The movie is special to our hearts, because it has to do with the special disease called ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a disease that damages your brain cells, and is historically known from happening to the late great Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees. The movie includes the life of a human being living with this tragic disease. The tickets were given to the Football players of Carmel High School and they are to sell them at 10 dollars a ticket to raise money for a player’s father on the team. The players name is Jesse Clifford and the money will go to the Clifford family to help support Mr. Clifford who will be in attendance and will speak on that fall night.

On Sunday October 9th Indiana High School football fans tuned in and watched the sectional drawings. A show that determines where your team ends up on the state playoff bracket, starting with class 1A and going to class 5A. Parents, relatives, coaches, and players all determined their fate as sectionals were revealed. The class 5A Carmel Greyhounds had the most anticipated bracket, being that their sectional has changed. Instead of having more of a Hamilton County northern sectional, they agreed to go south. Now their sectional is beefed up with teams like North Central, Lawrence Central, and the Midwestern powerhouse, Warren Central currently ranked number one in the state and number twelve in the USA today High School rankings.

Leaving the best for last the IHSAA announced that Carmel drew Perry Meridian first for their sectional match up. Not too often do you see the number one and number two teams in the State, in the same sectional.

October 12 welcomed Carmel High School’s Testing Day for all four grades. The freshman took either the PLAN or the PSAT, sophomores and juniors took the PSAT, and the seniors took the ASVAB. Interestingly enough, on this day of important testing, a large number of students skipped out on the first three hours of class when the testing took place, coming in for class at 11:03. These standardized tests have potential for scholarships and show colleges their skills and talent. The ASVAB is set up to help students narrow down their career field. However, with some classes of 30 down to 18, it seems that students, especially the upper classman, do not want the help these tests provide.
