Boys Basketball Ready For New Season

The Carmel Greyhound’s boy basketball team is coming off an impressive 23-4 season in which Carmel defeated Pike 80-67 to win the IHSAA 4A state championship. The team last year was led by seniors Ben Gardner, Sam Curts, Karl Schneider, and Shawn Heffern. Gardner and Curts provided the scoring while Heffern and Schneider played blanketing defense. The team also had an impressive backcourt from the Volovic twins; Michael and James. Also James Crowley backed up Gardner and Curts providing scoring off the bench. Zach McRoberts a sophomore and brother of current Los Angeles Laker forward Josh McRoberts provided a big man off the bench with an array of skills for defense. The team went through the season picking off each basketball power one by one. Last year’s team was coached by Scott Heady, and he did an excellent job coming back from a 10-13 season to 23-4 and becoming state champions. In sectionals they beat the Hamilton Southeastern Royals lead by 5-star Michigan State commit Gary Harris. They went to regionals and beating the likes of Kokomo, Homestead, and Elkhart Memorial. They beat Pike in the title game 80-67 beating RJ Hunter the son of Ron Hunter that coaches Georgia State.

This year’s current basketball team is poised to make another run. Taking the reigns from last years squad; the greyhounds return with an array of skilled players. They return Zach McRoberts, James Crowley, and Volovic twins. They are ready to take the Greyhounds to another promise land of 2 state championships to become a true basketball power in the state. The Greyhounds open the season on Wednesday November 21^st against Brownsburg.
